Editor's note

Several of these email marketing tools are ones I have used firsthand: Mailchimp, HubSpot, Brevo (my current pick), and MailerLite.

Mailchimp is one of the oldest names in email marketing and has poured serious budget into its own brand for years, which is a big part of why I think it sits at the top of this list. My personal experience, though, was less flattering. During the time I ran it, I struggled with campaigns landing outside the inbox, and free accounts I set up were suspended. That left me with a genuine wariness toward the brand rather than the loyalty its ranking might suggest.

HubSpot was a different story. It worked well for me while I was running it alongside a CRM, where the email tools fit naturally into the wider workflow. On its own, without a CRM behind it, I do not think it holds up as a standalone email marketing platform.

Brevo is where I have landed. I used it free for a long stretch, never ran into a real problem, and I still rely on it today. In my view it is a genuinely capable tool, and it is the one I keep coming back to.

I have also spent time with MailerLite along the way, which rounds out my hands-on view of the tools on this list.
